I must admit I’m not quite as tired as I was expecting, and the students made it through the week like champs. It was a great week and I’m feeling like we’re settling into our routines pretty well. I’m enjoying teaching grade 3 again this year, it feels like I never left. In the spring when I found out I was coming back to grade 3 from grade 5 I was a little worried about adjusting but most days I forget that I was ever teaching grade 5 last year.
Here’s a look at what we did and what we are planning to do next week:
Maths: We started our math drills to help us with our basic facts this week and will be continuing them about twice a week until the end of the year. We’ve been slowly making progress with our look at patterns, but I’m finding we need lots of time to practice and review so I’m planning on spending a lot more time looking at increasing patterns next week instead of moving on to decreasing patterns. We will start looking at numerical patterns as well.
Francais: We started our work on a rough copy of our “Avis de recherche”, or a Wanted poster for ourselves. The students wrote about themselves and paid close attention to making sure they wrote complete sentences and matched up their nouns and verbs and articles. We will be working on our final copies of those next week. In Alphabetique we will be doing a reading activity and working on sentences. The words for the first dictée will be sent home next week, with the test being the following week. The words for the whole year are posted on the website now.
English: We read Oh the Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss and looked at what it means for ourselves and our grade 3 year. We did a little bit of grammar with a worksheet on homophones as well. Next week we will read The Lorax.
Sciences: We had a look at the different kinds of sounds around us and learned that sounds are vibrations. Next week we will be doing a small experiment where we will be changing the tone of sounds by making more or less vibrations.
Social Studies: We continued our look at maps by making maps of our bedrooms and had a look at Canada and its provinces and territories. Next week we will be doing some writing about places in Canada that we’ve visited.
Toonies for Terry continues next week so continue to send your donations. The school is halfway to its goal of $1500.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. I’m spending Saturday morning with my kids picking up garbage. Hope your weekend is at least as fun as mine will be!
