We're back!
We’ve just finished our second week. I’m curious to see how next week will go since it is the first full week back at school. I’m guessing we’ll all be pretty tired by the end.
Quick thank you to the parents who popped in for the Q and A last night. I appreciated your questions and enjoyed chatting with you.
Here is a quick overview of what we did this week and a preview of what’s coming up next week:
Math: We’ve started to work on our morning math routines which starts with daily set of problems. These problems touch on all the strands of math so they are great for review. We’ve enjoyed trying out some “Estimysteries” and working on our estimation skills. We’ve started our unit on patterns, looking at increasing patterns and how to write the “rule” for the pattern.
Next week we will be starting our “speed tests” for basic addition problems and we will be continuing to make and describe increasing patterns and begin decreasing patterns.
French Language Arts: We’ve started working on our Alphabetique workbook and did a lesson on the alphabet. We’ve been working on our “Back to school” unit, talking about emotions and feelings and the vocabulary that goes with it.
Next week in Alphabetique we will be looking at accents and the “é” sound. We will start some descriptive writing by making a “Wanted” poster for ourselves.
English Language Arts: We’ve started our Dr. Seuss unit. We read The Cat in the Hat and made some rhymes of our own.
Next week we will be doing some journal writing, and reading the book “Oh the places you’ll go”.
Science: We are looking at sound and hearing and have just started by reviewing the basics of our sense of hearing.
Next week we are starting to look at the sounds around us and how sounds are vibrations.
Social Studies: We are working on our map skills, we’ve found the cardinal directions in the class, and have worked on legends and symbols on maps.
Next week we are going to continue with map reading skills and will be making a map of our rooms at home.
Physical Education: We are working on our soccer skills and will continue with that for a few more weeks.
Some notes for next week. Please double-check that your child has a water bottle they can bring to school. This helps keep them out of the halls and touching common surfaces such as the water fountain.
Please remember to send a fork or spoon with your child if they need it for their lunch or snack.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I plan on finishing my stairs and try to make some time to read and get out for a walk or two.
