Bienvenue! September 3rd, 2021

Welcome to the 2021/2022 School year!

I am very happy to embark on this new adventure of teaching Grade 4. I’ve spent most of my career teaching grade 3 but am excited for the challenge of a new grade.

This website/blog is where I’ll be sharing the goings-on of our class this year. I will post a weekly update of what we’ve been up to in our class, and what are plans are for the following week. My plan is to have a new blog posted every Friday, but sometimes life happens, and it can be a couple days late.

I encourage you to read the blog each week, ask your children about what we’ve been up to, and feel free to ask me any questions if you have any. The students will also be writing a brief message in their agenda each day. Please have a look and sign it each day if possible. There will be reminders for school events and such, or just a sentence about what we did that day. If you have any messages for me, you can write them in the agenda as well as I will be checking them each morning. For important things, it would be wise to contact me by email as well as the agenda just in case agendas get misplaced.

Just a reminder that Meet the Teacher night is September 7, 7-8PM, and will be held virtually. I’ll be emailing home a link next week.

I’ll be addressing this in more detail during the meet the teacher night, but I’ll let you know that in a few weeks I’ll be starting a home reading program as well as a dictée program.

Here is a brief summary of our first couple days in the classroom:

-We got to know each other through some games, and students got a chance to tell me about themselves with some worksheets and an activity where they shared what “gifts” they bring to the classroom.

-We did some review of some basic math concepts from grade 3.

-We wrote in our journals both in French and English. We do this multiple times a week about a variety of topics.

-We reviewed some grammar in both French and English, such as the parts of speech and homophones.

-We started our introduction to geography in Social Studies

Here is what we will be getting up to next week:

Math:  We will be doing a little more review, and then start work on number concepts, such as representing, comparing and ordering numbers up to 10 000.

French: We will be starting to learn about reading strategies, parts of speech, and preparing for a speaking project where students will be conducting interviews with one another.

English: We will be getting started on our first writing unit dealing with narrative stories, and doing some reading related to our studies in Science and Social Studies.

Sciences: We will be introduced to the Waste in our World unit by brainstorming what we already know and coming up with some guiding questions for our research.

Social Studies: We will be continuing with our geography unit, learning about cardinal directions and landmarks in Alberta.

I hope everyone has a wonderful long weekend!
