Sept 10th, 2021
I’m happy that summer has decided to make a reappearance. We’ve taken advantage of the weather this week to spend a bit of extra time outside during our gym or daily physical activity time. The sun and the air does us good.
I’d like to thank all the parents who popped into the Meet the Teacher night meeting this week. It was nice to be able to answer some questions and get to know some of the parents who might be new to our school. I’d like to remind everyone that I am always available to answer any questions you may have, and that email is probably the best way to reach me.
Our Terry Fox fundraiser starts next week. Please send Toonies for Terry with your kids over the next couple weeks to raise money for cancer research.
This week we spent some time getting logged on to the computers and changing their passwords. Your child should have their new password written in the front of their agenda.
Here’s what else we’ll be up to next week:
French: This week we will start work on the speaking project I’d mentioned last week (some of this week's work took a little longer than expected). We’ll start work in our Zigzag exercise books, talking about nouns and deteminers.
English: We will continue with our narrative writing this week. Last week I introduced the writing workshop, and this week we’ll have a chance to put it in practice, having the students, think, touch and tell, sketch, and write their narrative stories.
Maths: We will be spending a couple days this week working on the MIPI, a district-wide formative evaluation designed to help guide my instruction throughout the year. After that’s finished, we’ll continue with numbers, place value and representing numbers up to 10 000.
Science: We will be looking at where our products come from, what they’re made from, and the possibilities for recycling these objects. Students will make a small poster displaying this information.
Social Studies: We will be doing some research about Alberta and its geography. I’ll also take some time to discuss the upcoming elections.
