Here we are, with but a week to go in the school year. It’s been a memorable year with lots of bumps and changes, but I’m pleased that things are looking up with regards to the pandemic and we can look forward to more usual school year in the fall.

We will be having our year-end celebration next Friday. As usual, students can bring a treat for themselves. I will confirm more details of what we’ll get up to during that celebration early next week.

Here’s a look at what we’ll try to accomplish during our last week together:

Math: We’re going to spend the week coming back 2- and 3-digit addition and subtraction, using the “exploding dots” method to help us visualize regrouping.

French: We’ll spend this week finishing up the review in Alphabetik. We’ll also be throwing in some more amusing French activities that get us speaking and interacting with the language and each other.

English: We’ll be spending Monday-Wednesday finishing our writer’s workshop. The students have worked very hard to come up with at least a couple stories and have learned about the revising process that allows us to add details to our writing. This week we will focus on the publishing process, which has the students rewriting their stories so they’re easier to read, along with adding some illustrations so they have a story they’re proud of!

Science: We will continue our work classifying animals and look at their life cycles.

Social Studies: We will do some reading about the history and culture of Ukraine.

We had a visit from our school counselor Mme. Mulner this week. We had a great chat with the class about friendship and bullying, such as what bullying looks like, and what to do and who to tell if we’re feeling bullied. It spurred some great conversations, and we will continue it sometime next week as well.

Here’s to a great weekend and a great last week of school!
