March 26th 2021
My apologies for not having put a blog up last week. We had a great week this week. We wrapped up Fractions, performed our Reader's theatre skits in French, learned about Minerals and their properties, wrapped up talking about India and moved on to Peru. We also were able to watch a performance by the Calgary Opera called Hansel and Gretel. This normally would have been live, but we were able to watch a recording. The children liked the stories and characters, but weren't huge fans of the singing.
With each day, I forgot to hand out the spelling test that was supposed to be done today, as a result, I'm pushing it back until Thursday. There will be no new dictées and spelling tests handed out next week as we will be starting to practice for the spellathon. Details about the spellathon will be sent home next week.
Here's a peek at what's going on next week:
Math: We are starting our look at 2-d and 3-d shapes. Naming 2-d shapes on Monday, sorting them by their properties on Tuesday, and identifying 3-d shapes on Wednesday and Thursday.
Français: We will be doing a writing activity about animals in our Alphabetique book on Monday, a reading activity about staying healthy on Tuesday, and learning about the noun group in sentences on Wednesday on Thursday. Dictée #15 will be on Wednesday, we will be taking time to practice the dictée on Monday and Tuesday as well.
Science: We will be examining a mineral and identifying its properties on Monday, and then talking about mining minerals on Tuesday.
Social Studies: We will be finding Peru on a map and labeling its neighbouring countries on Wednesday, and learning about its flag and symbols on Thursday.
English: We are starting to write narrative stories. We will be writing a model story together on Monday, planning our own stories on Tuesday, and start writing them on Wednesday.
Important info:
On Tuesday, we will be having a blacklight glow-in-the-dark Storytime on Tuesday morning. Students can wear something bright that will show up nicely in blacklight.
Wednesday is Green shirt day.
We will be having an easter celebration on Thursday, we will watch a movie, and students can bring their own snacks to have (not to share) that day as well.
We are doing an art project this week where the students will be using rocks to represent the members of their family. Please send 10-15 clean rocks about 2-5 centimetres in size with your children this week if you haven't already.
