October 22nd 2020

We were thrown into the depths of winter this week and were reminded of the best ways to zip up our coats, and the importance of putting your gloves on last.
I want to thank those who brought donations in for our winter clothing drive. A few days in and we've already filled a large uhaul box to the top!
Here's a peek at what we've got planned for the upcoming week:
Math: We wrapped up our patterns unit this last week and are going to be working on numbers. We are starting at looking at how we group things to make counting large numbers easier. We will then draw base 10 blocks to represent large numbers up to 1000.
French: We never got to start our oral presentation on our favourite things last week so we will try to get at it this week. We are continuing to work in Alphabetique by finishing a reading activity and then moving on to the proper and common noun activity. I know these are what I had written we would do last week, but we ended up spending some extra time with our journal writing, and making sure we are making proper sentences when we write. Dictée #3 will be on Wednesday, and we will be taking some time on Monday and Tuesday to practice.
English: Once again, last weeks actual plans took over from my planned plans and I had to push back the My Terrific Teacher activity to this week. We will also be spending time practicing for Spelling Test #3 which is on Friday.
Science: We are beginning to wrap up our Sound and Hearing unit. We will be thinking about what we've learned during this unit, and will be talking about our final project, which is making a homemade musical instrument. I'll send home more details about this later this week.
Social Studies: We are going to be finishing our travel brochures for Canada this week. The kids have been really engaged in this activity and I am happy to see their passion for it.
On Friday we will be having a Halloween celebration. The kids can wear their costumes and we will be having a virtual parade where they can show off to the other kids in the school. To make things as simple as possible with COVID restrictions, I'm suggesting that each parent send a treat and snack for their own child instead of sending treats to share. I plan on watching the Lorax with the students that day as well to help wrap up our Dr. Seuss unit.
Have a great week!
